Could 'subsidy-free' CfDs solve the UK's renewables policy dilemma?

Bright Blue Associate Fellow Ben Caldecott was quoted today in BusinessGreen discussing whether subsidy-free CfDs (Contracts for Difference).

"Subsidy-free CfDs are a really important innovation that would provide certainty to investors, reduce costs, and make it clear we're not going to be subsidising renewables after the mid 2020s," Caldecott tells BusinessGreen. "But at the same time they would still provide the necessary contractual certainty for investors parting with a lot of money up-front to build CAPEX-intensive infrastructure."
